After losing future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles in Week 1, the New York Jets were strangely competitive for a while.

They won that Week 1 contest against the Buffalo Bills and lost their next three games in a row, they then won their next three games in a row, which included a win over the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, and it looked like perhaps they would even have a shot at making the playoffs.

But New York is now on another three-game losing streak, and late in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, third-year quarterback Zach Wilson was finally benched by head coach Robert Saleh.

While Wilson showed some maturity in his response to his benching, the team is still in trouble, and the whispers that Rodgers may return later this season may be giving fans a tiny bit of hope.

But Rich Eisen pointed out that returning from a torn Achilles in just three months would be a bad move, especially given the problems New York has with their offensive line.

Traditionally, a torn Achilles has meant up to a year of rehab for high-level athletes, and while the science behind the surgery and rehab associated with such injuries has improved, it has only come so far.

For now, at least, the Jets will reportedly go with Tim Boyle, who went 7 of 14 for 33 yards and an interception versus Buffalo, under center.

The loss to Buffalo was arguably the Jets’ worst offensive performance this season in a season that has been defined by poor offensive performances.

They only mustered a season-low 155 yards of total offense and 92 passing yards while committing four turnovers and allowing six sacks.
